I have spent most of my career working in highly-regulated organizations, primarily in financial services and governments. The identification and application of rules has been an important component of most of my projects.

I have learned that rules come from different sources and fall into certain categories. The articles in this section of PIRRIDM are focused on those categories.

In PIRRIDM, I have chosen to take a practical approach to the Rules section. Academics and purists may choose to debate how I have chosen to classify the Rule Categories. In my approach, I am focused on ensuring that I capture the required rules. The categories that I have chosen have provided a practical structure to ensuring that the rules are captured correctly.

Rules originate from various sources:

  • Government
  • Regulatory bodies
  • Industry practice
  • Policies and Procedures within an organization.
